Road Construction

It's an unnecessary evil

The road being perfect or not

Because traffic flow is too good

This will have to stop

First a single sign to appear

A work zone AKA speed trap

A construction zone and work zone with different lengths

Apparently behind closed doors a deal made with the city and police

Now cones and barricades litter my path

It was so much better with green grass

They force me into the holes I try to avoid

The workers all laugh as my car is destroyed

Every day now I sit in a line

Left only to cuss and whine

I look around to see what has improved

Slowly moving up one spot then two

My journey passes from weeks into months

Sitting in construction is just getting to be too much

I change my schedule to allow for extra time

The damn construction workers are all sitting around

Not caring about my dime

Months now turn into a year

The end of the road construction not even near

More cones and barricades are laid

Damn it, it’s becoming permanent way

So now I spend my weekend looking at a map

Searching for side roads to get me there and back

My first new detour made on Monday

A damn road construction sign says closed till Sunday

So now back into the line of traffic I sit

So damn mad I could just spit

One construction worker hard at work

Eight others watching not caring if I look

Then upon my next stop I see

A stupid sign they put out for me to read

It says be courteous to construction workers

Proceed with caution

So when I got home being tired and pissed

I went into my garage and with my hammer I hit

Mounting my own sign in the back of my truck

Telling the construction worker to go get f--ked

Now I enjoy my slow ride to work

Sitting in road construction traffic no longer going berserk

My fellow travelers all holding up signs of disgust

I added music and lights to my sign

Now the construction workers can complain, whine and cuss
