[Introduction]

Cosmic Love was and is the firstborn of my oddball haiku compilations. I’ve been writing them in themed “batches” for roughly a year as of this introduction, and I thought it fitting that the earliest should see light of day first. Cosmic Love sets itself somewhat apart from my other writing – it is a soft, idealistic dream-cloud hovering just barely aloft of the surreal, endless pit of night and disturbance that is the rest of my haiku.

I view haiku as delicately concentrated stories – they say so much in so little. They’re a paradox – a highly disciplined form of poetry that lends itself to abstract metaphor and complete chaos. You could say that the galaxy is very similar – carefully organized to where it functions perfectly, yet always writhing in natural madness. This is kind of the image I wanted to convey with Cosmic Love, particularly the first half.

This short compilation has themes of fantastical wilderness, love and memories bordered in golden sun in the mind’s eye, and their quick decline into a black, nightmarish void. It begins with longing romanticism and ends in agony in the bottomless stomach of a space parasite, those fond memories taking on a strange sourness, as fond memories are wont to do. But you know how that goes, surely you’ve been there. We’ve all been there before.

[Cosmic Love]

1-----

He is cosmic love
Ruby supernova, my
Overdose rocket

2-----

Twist through to vortex
Shine like scars on the dreamscape
Faint kindly to death

3-----

Broken bridge of fog
Chemicals of the rainbow
Suffocate to haze

4-----

Paint the face of Mars
In conch spirals and amber
Stratosphere of fire

5-----

Destined are we to
Be lovers farmed for voyeurs?
Valueless as dust

6-----

Apex of opal
Dream bubbles burst, flash moonbeams
Echo of starlight

7-----

Love is mercury
Fighting to run from my palm
Transience, escape

8-----

A perfect spectre
White as the waking chasm
Veil on nitrous skies

9-----

Man of cinnabar
Ordinary alchemy
Stardust factory

10-----

Checkerboard kingdom
Obelisk in the parched plains
A cactus blossom

11-----

Animal calling
Contort your spirit to fly
Wingless to heaven

12-----

Cadaverous bombs
We will burn apart at the
Hands of silk-dressed boars

13-----

Molten tiara
Bloodlike magma in orbit
The tempered spiral

14-----

Stinging nettle man
My reclusive fantasies
Sultry as marsh spring

15-----

Sweat beads on lotus
Intimate on the pond shore
Orange blossom dew

16-----

Thousand centuries
Gorged on your cryptic beauty
Base bacteria

17-----

Audible cosmos
Our love is but a plaque smear
In this mass chaos

18-----

Heart stimulation
In gas-lit utopia
Mirage hides its age

19-----

Grave in birch circle
If you find it, the riddle
Sonnet is carved within

20-----

Earth beckoned our name
As one sister embraced in
Her lush, ancient heart

21-----

I am mercury
Parched of creative soul, you
Drain me, exhume me

22-----

A charmless wasteland
This is a bitter planet
For the sensitive

23-----

Lavender in storm
Is the scent of her sea masque
The drowning ballroom

24-----

Cataclysmic want
Desire that contorts life to
Suit one obsession

25-----

Enraged ancestors
Linger in thickets between
Grave mounds of garbage

26-----

Children are mushrooms
Bursting radioactive
Scalding the ozone

27-----

Jungle of patterns
Electric painted imps dance
Around green bonfire

28-----

Lover of June rains
His euphoric tears disguised
By cleansing downpour

29-----

Tattooed with stardust
Hyper-chromatic angel
Fly me far from here

30-----

Fill me with clockwork
At last I will be intact
Lacking only faith

[Parasite of the Sun]

31-----

Cruel yet so lifeless
You are black holes, mannequins
Quivering in waste

32-----

The slender bones dance
Piano hammers beneath
Blue veins of your feet

33-----

There’s no substitute
For disjointed faces, peals
Of mocking goblins

34-----

Lust faerie atop
A crystal ball suspended
In blinding white cell

35-----

Cathedral ruins
On a granite pillar waits
Time-corrupting imp

36-----

Sacred as solstice
You’re septic as the pearl milk
From the moth’s stomach

37-----

Rhinestone-studded spine
Drench me in melted plastics
Synthetic cancers

38-----

Snail shells line the beach
Sunstorm on the horizon
I have no shadow

39-----

Banana isle wafts
On heartwaves – pulse sleepily
Into starvation

40-----

Temples of enslaved
I ate the heart from his chest
And awoke threadbare

41-----

Tri-coloured wasteland
Cursed by chromatic god’s eye
Illuminated

42-----

Mellow death seekers
Premonitions smooth as sound
Gambling for soul shards

43-----

Reanimator
Wandering demon in his
Circuitboard thumbprints

44-----

Fractured delusions
Facets of you I recall
Fragmented visions

45-----

The absurd biome
Trees with piano key teeth
Slaughter dusk faeries

46-----

Robot born of tusks
Ivory – his teal balloon
Drifts in foothill winds

47-----

Chambers and columns
Alchemical genesis
Of my solitude

48-----

Bleed sap of dead men
Flesh-melting ink beetles swarm
From the gored maple

49-----

Neon wedding dress
For a bride with metal bones
And transparent skin

50-----

Para-natural
Sly hunter or violent waltz
With self-persona

51-----

Vocalized slumber
Dreams curling at the edges
Fade to black sickness

52-----

Hinder me but once,
You’ve lost my trust – hinder me
Twice, you’ve lost my love

53-----

Organic lives are
Incompatible tyrants
And depthless bloodlust

54-----

Tears of angel’s bile
Unholy duet mourns my
Conception, rebirth

55-----

My erratic nerves
Thrash like devils in a chest
Total neurosis

56-----

Mechanical palm
Slips through essence of hours
Melts into black stars

57-----

Fantastic savage
Dangles from needle fingers
Wormlike humanoids

58-----

Column of scarlet
Dissolves into blind sandstorm
Engulfs the planet

59-----

The fog does not rise
Unending bridge of corpses
In purgatory

60-----

All hail corrupt cells
Brain parasite of the sun
Greed of cerebrum
