Does Anyone Really Care?

Copyright 1-7-2019

Steve Lake

I pose a simple question

From the young to the elders alike

Does anyone really care?

Damn I almost started a fight

It wasn't that I was prying

Nor taking a survey of importance

It's just that I found a child crying today

Showing no bruises or harm on display

Damn it not again

It's a mental sway

I goo goo my query

Ga Ga was my reply

All this over a stupid toy

A simple invention of joy

I continued my path of simplicity

One after the next to the next

Posing simple scenario's

To hell with me their story seldom flexed

I broaden my search

From white to black

And blackish white

From yellow to brown

And brownish yellow

Uptown through downtown

All equally returning a frown

You would think I am asking the impossible

Like the secret to their family's fortune

A commitment beyond their effort

The blood of their first born son

But in truth I am only looking for a simple answer

To dry the tears of this child so bummed

So I apologize to this little child

On behalf of humanity

And I gave him my favorite toy as a replacement

600 generations within my family

This toy has been around for a while

So I did my good deed for the day

I dried the tears of an innocent child

Gave him the hope of better days

So I started my car to drive away

Then in a moment of my breath

My car window shattered returning my gift

Then a high pitch voice screamed

I don't need your f-ing rock

And you wonder why I ask the question

Does anyone really care?
